You should never store Ore in any Storage Container but it should be sent directly to the Smelter, Foundry, or Constructor depending on the Resource being Mined. I currently store each ore in one storage container.
➔ THAT SAID, it is normal practice, and for simplicity sake, that you only store one "type" of item per each Storage Container. However, the Industrial Storage Container has two inputs so it is possible to connect two conveyor belts to it, with each conveyor belt having a different item or mix of items, without the need to Merge before hand. But you can Merge two Conveyor Belts into one and connect that to a Storage Container which will then have a "mix of items". The Normal Storage Container only has one Input and one Output so you can't connect two conveyor belts to it.
